Let Life Unfold

John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."

In this passage from the Gospel of John, Jesus urged his disciples to remain in peace. As he and his followers proceeded on their journey to Jerusalem, where their safety would be threatened, Jesus, aware of the potential dangers they faced (such as ridicule, arrest, torture, and death), assured them of peace, tranquility, and fearless confidence.

How often have you spent time worrying, feeling anxious, or dreading what "might" happen? I have lived most of my life like that. I wonder though, what would it be like to accept the promise of peace Jesus offers? What would it be like to merely let go, and let it all unfold? I imagine our lives would be less anxious, our health would improve, and our relationships would thrive.

Maybe we should trade worry for peace and let our daily prayer include a petition for peace. "Loving God, today I will strive to be fully present, I will engage each task with joy, I will love others fully, and Lord, as you promised, I will leave the outcome to you." Today, let go and "Let Life Unfold."
